Nordiskt Avantgardenätverk CALL for PAPERS for the 2nd Annual Conference of the Nordic Network of Avant-Garde Studies Avant-Garde and Technology Extended deadline – September 20! We invite abstracts for an interdiscplinary conference on »The Avant-Garde and Technology» in Stockholm, November 25-26, 2005. The aim the confence is to investigate the complex and dynamic interaction between the Avant-Garde movements and the emergence of new media and technologies. Recomended topics divide into three (overlapping) subcategories: Technology and the Senses (suggested topics:) • Avant-Garde and sound technologies • Avant-Garde and visual technologies • Digital technology and the contemporary Avant-Garde • Avant-Garde and tactility Technology and the Sciences (suggested topics:) • Medical Technology and Avant-Garde Aesthetics • Avant-Garde and Bio-Technology • Avant-Garde and the Machine • Avant-Garde and Cybernetics Technologies of Reproduction (suggested topics:) • Avant-Garde and the Typewriter • Xerox Avant-Garde • Film Technology and Innovative Prose Writing • Avant-Garde and Bio-Technology [again] • Digital technology and the contemporary Avant-Garde [again] Doctoral students and all researchers interested in these interdisciplinary and multicultural relationships are welcome to submit papers. These should not exceed 20 min. in length. An additional 10 min. will be set aside for discussion following each paper. Each speaker will therefore be allocated a total of 30 min. Conference registration, paper topics and abstracts (10-20 lines) are to be sent to Jonas Ingvarsson by the final deadline of September 20, 2005. We will kindly stress the importance of keeping the time limits! (Some exceptions MAY be made for visual and/or audio examples.) Therefore we strongly advice you to measure the time of your own paper. (Hint: one minute of speech approximates 800 characters – spaces included.) We will bluntly cut the presentation at 20 min's. Further information, hotel suggestions, and conference fees (maximum SEK 600) will be distributed in September to those who submitted abstracts/registrations. Welcome!
