The 2nd Annual Conference of the Nordic Network of Avant-Garde Studies, Stockholm November 25-26: "Avant-Garde and Technology".

We are proud to confirm that the two keynote speakers of the conference will be Lev Manovich and Douglas Kahn.

Lev Manovich (http://www.manovich.net) is an Associate Professor in the Visual Arts Department, University of California, San Diego where he teaches courses in new media art and theory. He is the author of The Language of New Media (The MIT Press, 2001), Tekstura: Russian Essays on Visual Culture (Chicago University Press, 1993) as well as many articles which have been published in 28 countries. Manovich is in demand to lecture on new media; since 1999 he delivered over 180 lectures in North and South America, Europe, and Asia. His awards include Mellon Fellowship and Guggenheim Fellowship (2002-2003).

Douglas Kahn is Director of Technocultural Studies at University of California at Davis. With research concentrations in auditory culture, the history and theory of sound in the arts, and new media arts, he is the author of Noise, Water, Meat: A History of Sound in the Arts (MIT Press, 1999), coeditor of Wireless Imagination: Sound, Radio and the Avant-garde (MIT Press, 1992), and editor of an ongoing book series, "Auditory Culture", from MIT Press. He produced radio art and "new documentary" for ABC-Radio (Australia), was a frequent commentator on national radio in Australia, and collaborated with Frances Dyson in writing and media production through the company Liminal Product. He has a Ph. D. in art history, an M.F.A. in "post-studio arts" (Cal Arts), and an M.A. in experimental music composition from Wesleyan University, where he studied with Alvin Lucier and Ron Kuivila.
